ABOUT THE HYDRANGEA SERIES
Until I started this series, I had painted very few flower paintings and it is because I love flowers so much, and have always felt I could never do them justice. On a whim, I brought home a pot of deep blue hydrangeas one day and I was so entranced by the depth of their color that I had to try to capture it. Once I started there was no going back! I became fascinated by the interlocking shape of their petals and the tiny little variations of color in each one.
I found that my pouring method served to capture the color ("Meg's Hydrangeas") and using illustration board coated with matte medium was the best way to play around with all those tiny shapes. Later I did an endless number of monotypes and then decorated them with gold and crayon and ink. ( I'm still afraid of most flowers however.)
