Through the use of broad expanses of color and pattern, I want to create
fantasy worlds of peace and safety and harmony. I like to take a scene or motif
I know well and to play with it until the joyous elements are dominant. I like
to paint houses that the viewer knows are a home ~ mystery and shadow need to
give way to light and warmth. Sometimes deep green forests hint at other secrets
but for me the four square walls of a house can hold the greatest of
gifts.
I thank Jan Ledbetter for being a wonderful, inspiring
teacher - other influences include study with Gerald Brommer, Stephen Quiller, and Doug Walton. I
received a B.A. from Colby College, and an M.A. from the Univ. of
Michigan~neither was in art. So many years were wasted!
